I have found if I keep a “ticktock”, or a minute to minute accounting of what I do. The ideas I have write them down when I do, I see how an idea can progress over the course of a day or other time period.

An outline and or using outlook or other day planner helps, the format is close.

One of my primary dislikes of both academics and the uop system, till about week 2 or even week 3 I have little idea of what the teacher is wanting from me, how to give the teacher what they want, how to shape the final paper in a vain hope of creating something they are wanting.

So far as an adult in college I have managed to figure out most of them, one exception of a low C in my grades. I did not figure out till the 7th week that persons specific rule on word length till week 7 at axia.

That is one portion of high school I liked, going up to the teacher and showing your progress with seeing if that is the direction the teacher wanted. I really miss that.

Its funny in the text the author gives the definition of the name our school system is based on. Parochial = close minded. Our system is based on a Prussian industial youth education model. To get the youth ready for the coming industrial age, the Prussians created this school system so kids would go from children, to in school, to working in factories. The training is also great for the military. It is not designed to promote ideas, flow of information, or to create a population of truly educated.

I had no idea I was building these kinds of skills with my distain for being lied too. I learned way back at around 7 to start distinguish between facts and strong opinion presented as fact.

The words and sentence structure are different, even if those differences are only a word or two in a pragarph different the distingsion between is still very important.

Most of my investigating ancient cultures has come as a direct result of deconstructing sentence structures to find the facts hidden behind fallacy.

If there are future scientists in this class, these skills have been worth more than platinum. I will give a for instance, when I was in astronomy class. Based completely on reading the first few chapters of the provided textbook, I simply used the sentence structure or what ever this skill is called to make a comparison to the facts given. The teacher told me I had a valid point when I pointed out based on the available data; Jupiter could be a failed brown draft, consequently gravitationally speaking we are in a binary solar system. I put that together based on dissecting the sentences used.

I have something very powerful to say about the first few paragraphs from chapter 1. They are not a part of the reading but to my they are absolutely of the most vital of important topics.

A verb is important but who presents the package that verb word/tool and what that tool does is equally important. But who puts the package together. What teacher takes the package. How does that teacher present the verb tool. The structure of how something is taught is more important than the tool itself. “A lie is much easier to sell to the masses then the truth” (AH, 1900’s). For the package of how something is taught dictates to all but the strong willed how that tool will be used from the second they encounter the packaging till the mistakes are corrected.

The structure of where academics come from answers most of those very dominant and “my way or the highway” organizational structure. Academics comes directly from the guild system. The guild system comes directly from how the Vatican itself is organized. The Vatican is a direct organizational copy of “imperial Rome” (a noted difference between Imperial Rome and the roman republic), which is loosely based on the organizational structure of the Greece city state.

                        I say loosely because in the Aegean their were several cities. When the structure was revitalized by Caesar he fixed one problem by having one city and only one city. Rome was it, so their would be no city to city infighting. Rome was it, with a lot of smaller areas within. Since the city already operated with 7 smaller areas working together all they did was add areas to the cities main Forum hub.

The Greeks were not interested in furthering ideas, they were interested in the control of information. Academics is strongly in the business of controlling information not fostering a prosperous and bountiful ideas and information are all welcome environment. Unless you have a spirit willing to brass knuckle box and defend every word you use when presenting your ideas in academics do not bother.

A dissertation is to defend yourself to a panel of piers in that field who are there to tear you and your ideas apart.

W1q1 textaloud

Almost two years ago when I was first advised about a program to convert text to speech I immediately did a Google search.

I only saw textaloud, www.naturalreaders.com, and the Microsoft version. I downloaded each. After about 20 minutes with each the textaloud program showed itself to be preferable. I was able to interact with it faster, better, the free on xp voice was less tinny, the free voice on vista I still use. The other two were not as user friendly, and Microsoft’s free voice sounded straight out of the 1980’s.

For me to interact quickly and easily is a major plus. Some programs I have are extremely complicated. For listening and interacting quickly, the less headaches in operation the better.

Listening along at a variable pitch, speed, and voice choice text aloud was the only one I found which I could work with inside 20 minutes. The Microsoft took me more than an hour and I still did not like it. For me this only works because the voice was not jarring.

The customer service since the company is small is rather quick. I usually get an email back with in about 20 minutes. I really like when I do have a problem they help solve it quickly. They also had no problem with me adding my “create an audio CD from your program” when I suggested it.

I cannot say how many times I have brought up this little concept those programs cover the need for where the person I am posting too has never heard or thought this would be something they would be interested in. In our busy days, most humans find themselves with time to kill waiting for something. Being able to listen to a subject from a text you are interested in takes on a whole new dimension. Being able to take one program, which is very user friendly, and increase your knowledge while eating up board down times waiting. Not to mention the voice and speed are variable depending on your personal needs. This program concept is most adults returning to further their education dream. Listening to a textbook on the morning commute, young kids interested in learning but cannot read on their own, listening to a novel/other text related information while doing other things, as well as a thousand more applications are all good reasons to consider adding this program and what it can do to your academic study techniques.

Fortunately Microsoft's word correct program is essential for my writing. It corrects most of what I type, one reason I love this program so much is when I am typing along and I misspell something and the computer correct to a close to not that word. When I use this program I can hear the mistakes, I might have normally skimmed over knowing what I intended to write, and correct the differences.

The cadence in the flow of a sentence this program has also helped me learn. Actually listening to some of my writing, the flow of a sentence helped me to understand a bit better how to write. Musically a good sentence should flow along with the rules of grammar.

I find your post fascinating in I way I was not expecting. You can tell every time a movie is going to be horrific if you see advertisements for it at every commercial break.

I remember when “Robocop” came out, I was thrilled at seeing a trailer for it every 7 minutes. Then when I finally saw it, it was junk.

The latest film to have as large an advertising budget as production is “Edge of darkness” the new Mel Gibson film. I am curious if its being advertised because its bad or because they want to get the word out for an undesirable actor who used to be huge.

Does saturation advertising work? Will enough trailers go by and some will just be “pavlovian” drawn to the product?

I remember Payback was almost not advertised at all.

One of the most important of things I have learned in my life is a person’s perspective can be altered with the proper manipulation tool applied in the correct way. Most people in the western culture are not taught sufficient defense tools, so a persuasive argument can sway some to belief the information presented.

“The bigger the lie the easier it is for the masses/mob to belief” (AH, 1900s’). This phrase might be completely accurate and from a horrific source but it is none the less true. Repeat something enough and the truth of the information repeated becomes not important the information will be accepted as truth. The information all comes down to the tool of cadence.

Now the other side of the argument is the strong willed can reject what is considered rumor. The problem is western culture is designed to create conformity, not accuracy. So only the strongest will be able to resist rumor as incorrect. Leaving a few “disbelievers” an extreme minority, which can be a very dangerous place. Several none conformists have meet violent ends when the community feels threatened.

Learning the tools to shape information in both the working world and academics is an essential tool. But with power comes responsibility. A persuasive argument can lead to abuses. Absolute power leads to absolute corruption. Knowledge is power, (Bacon), 1600’s) there are reasons to be very careful about how the tools of persuasion are applied and with what message. 

In higher education we learn to seek information, filter to find facts, create essays for daily posts, and larger essays for weekly assignments. But what few realize is the information we are learning was packaged in a way some mind find disturbing. Academics, of which higher education is accomplished, is not designed as a knowledge growing tool but an information control tool. From parochial school, straight though Ph. D, to the scholastic organizations themselves each part is designed to control information.

As established in the previous post. The history of Europe and the academic structure have holes in them. Start to understand the holes and what you can do with the information academics teaches brings on a whole new outlook. It is not just information we are learning but structures we can use to shape our thoughts with.

Using algebra we can categorize the events in our lives and see ways of interact with those events in better more productive ways.

By using the writing tools in this class textbook, formulating sentences from inception starts to take on a more structured format quicker. Sentence one write in this style, sentence two write in this format, the paragraph needs to start here, cover these points, second to end sentence, end sentence, and by following those suggestions your writing skills in academics will improve.

The actual history of academics, the more you learn about it the more you can take what you learn from disciplines with in academics to start to fix the problems with academics from within.

A large portion of academics is centered on a great motto, “knowledge is power”, but from great power comes great responsibility. Although the parent organizations which modern academics is founded took these basic ideas and applied them badly, does not mean we need to repeat the same mistakes. Take what past cultures did adding the academic structure to fix what is wrong, including some flaws in the academic structure itself. The greatest thing about the structure of academics, internally academics is designed to control information the scholars find. As Adults we can direct that control away from negative outcomes and towards positive ones.

When I was a kid “Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492” was an extremely common phrase in history class to learn the name, event, and time of a key historical event. Problem is the story and what actually happened are vastly different concepts.

It is true the accepted knowledge from the Vatican was the earth is flat, and the only continent was the African-Eurasian.

I say the Vatican not in an indicting way but in a flat fact way. From inception 320 c.e the Vatican steered a similar course as its parent organizations, but went so far beyond into a different category of information control. The west is at war with an enemy the west does not understand. For that matter most people in the middle east do not understand the motivations behind the enemy.

When this small group or click of the larger fundamentalist Muslim community start talking what the words they are saying are almost always not transled correctly into English. If they were maybe a little more understanding about what is mofivating htem can be obtained.

To this very small group the words they use have different meanings then their larger organization brothers. They see the world divided into two portions; heaven and hell. Heaven are the saved children of god, the people and the areas of land they control are heaven. Hell is everything else. See to them none believers are cattle created by satin to corrupt the true human beings. TO them we are simply bipedal or two legged animals. Some Mullah at some point in history changed the definition of none believers from the western translation concept “barbarians” to the more horrific “2 legged animal”. A barbarian is not a great comparrsion label, but it is in a better league to animal. See a barbarian is simply that an uncuth outsider. A two legger unless they come to the great god are instruments of satan their purpose is to lead the righchous away from god. So those that lead the humans away from god must be sacrafied to the greater glory of god. Sacrificing a two legger is better than sacrificing a sheep or goat because the sheep and goat are mindless low creatures, but a bipedal instrument of satan is a different scale all together. Sacrifice a group of animals in service to god, offering them up as you travel to the front of the line on your journey into heaven.

It is never about us, large areas where the innocent gather. They see it as a gathering of the instruments of satain who, in order to save the rest of the family/tribe from their influence a warrior or god will give of himself for the greater community and remove as many evil two leggers from harming him family as possible. The more sacrificed the more god likes it, and the more your family on earth will be safe from corrupting influences.

Sick but that is how ythey see it.

If you accept as fact even a small % of what I just wrote about you have to accept some level of responsibility to change it. The cornerstone to academics is to identify, diagnose, and correct errors as the organizational structure sees fit.

Everyone reading this is in college, you have at least some interest furthering yourself. Well your country has never needed the next generation of academics to stand up and push the community forward with the best and brightest giving it their all to stay 3 decades ahead of china.

For those that are not the best and brightest, support staff is an absolutely essential “team tool” in the box of any person or group who wish to innovate an idea.

Van Braun did not invent rockets on his own, he surrounded himself with people who could help him. The cleaning crew at any given place does a job just as important as the head of R and D. I can give examples like this to every single technical innovation back through written history.

What I am asking is for everyone reading this to rise up and save the country or western culture by keeping our technological edge. You need to do this for the greater good. You need to rise up and you need to convince everyone you know how life sustaining perilous point we are at.

Worst case scenario, instead of china taking over. The globe could be plunged into a third dark ages. The first two in recorded history took more than 1000 years to recover from.

Movements can only be sustained with continued community action. This country needs our help.

I have a persuasive argument. Here are a few facts; every major civilization upon collapse did so not because of an invading army but because of internal corruption, every civilization which has been overtaken by conquest has been conquered for lack of keeping up technologically, every civilization which has rested on its laurels with past accomplishment without wanting to invest in tomorrow is overtaken by the next civilization with the next great innovation, etc. Because of this trend it is possible to observe how a civilization will collapse from internal corruption.

Right now in America we are facing a crisis of future impending doom category. A movement has taken hold in this country of resting on our past accomplishments and an almost complete unwillingness to invest in tomorrow.

We have an additional problem, just like all the collapsed cultures before us we know who our replacement will be. The only reason china has not overtaken us in global dominance is for this one small reason, we have maintained a steady 30 years technological jump on them. Our .com boom who cares about the economic collapse with the .com bust, that boom kept America on the cutting edge of technology from at least 1990-2020. But in the next 5 years if we do not put some serious work into language, math, science, technology, innovation, and keeping on the cutting edge we will be replaced.

No amount of religious devotion will counter the demands of the next culture to take the position of global leader. Every major civilization which has been replaced had a % of the population do devotionals but they were still subjugated.

The day I have been dreading since 1980, when the shuttle will be grounded and nothing will take its place.

Death from above by a technically superior enemy is what will happen if we allow china to become more technically advanced then us. It only takes 15 minutes from de-orbit burn to touchdown. If China has a working large population manned space station they could put as many troops in our boarders as they like, there is almost nothing we can do about it. He who has the .44 makes the rules. They have a standing army 3x our entire population.

The concept of belief v science is a difficult thing to come to grips with let along find a balance between the two.

Western cultures right now are in a multipronged fanatical religious war, both internally and externally. The enemies within are unfortunately more dangerous then the external.

The enemies within are more dangerous because the best psychological tool for population control is to thing you have the best interest for the community from some divine source but in truth most of those divine inspiration directions spell the ruination of the community.

Right now such a movement away from true fact based information to religious belief is sweeping inside academics and the community at large.

From a purely historical and sociological perspective is this religious movement continues the only thing the globe has to look forward to is either the Chinese seize power over the globe or we move into another dark ages.

My suggestion for the training pool is to contact a temporary agency; volt, office team, etc to see if what kind of designed to be temporary employment services they offer. Temporary employment agencies specialize in having a pool of highly trained employees on-call to service the needs of the industrial and blue collar market. Many require their temporary work force to have specific training.

It is a rather expensive proposition but it will achieve a 100% reliable phone call if I need this many qualified people to be here at this time.

If none exist; creating an employment agency which specializes in grocery temporary workers, as way to achieve two goals. One, the Blue Grocery stores is a chain so this indicates every grocery manager has this same problem. Which points to a larger work force to have qualified workers for. Two the Blue Grocery chain is not the only chain, Mr. Reed has a great reputation with 30 years of experience, that reputation can be put to good use in the creation of this agency. Not only will Mr. Reed’s shifts be covered, but any workers sent to any other store the agency makes a %.
Consistency in the home store, consistency in other stories, and profits from other chains.

We have thoughts on a similar line. I write about either contact volt, office team, etc or if none exist have the corporation create its own agency.

I think making vacation plans by March at the latest about late enough. Some vacations start as soon as the kids are out of school. Some districts let the kids out beginning of May.

Tell me more about what you see in “stricter guidelines”. Your information was good, but I am lacking a clear understanding of how to implement the guidelines.

We might be living in a time of stay in your current job almost no matter what, but as the cycles of history clearly dictate the pendulum will swing back and when it does the employees who are unhappy will be the first to jump shift is the policies are too hard.

My wife has quit two jobs because of nasty regulations management thought were great ideas, but the minute she and several others could find other work they were all gone. It might take months for years, but it does happen.

You know what an employees response to proper backup is, I am out of here. Maybe not today, or next quarter, but when I find something better I am gone.

The second problem arises which could compound the hiring issue is the management Mr. Reed included is the stories and letting off steam at the local bar/café negative stories about how employees are managed move at the speed of sound and now with twitter at the speed of light.

Which is the current excuse for the TARP bonuses; if we do not give out this much money and bonuses we cannot attract the best people for the jobs. The excuse is applied to the other side. If we do not crank the rules and penalties up for the lower workers, they will run over us.

I might have misread your post, but it read like. Time to crack the whip on these lazy workers.

Added to your comments, when the word starts going out about difficult managment the new hire pool dries up.
In my area if Disney was not so huge, some policies would get a "Never work for Disney" from the entire qualified work force. As it is, if you do not speak spanish as your first language do not bother applying for anywhere other than the major corporations here. The work about companies spreads fast.

I am thrilled you did not take it personal and are willing to chat about it, excellent in my humble opinion.

Not having the benefits of a fit body to have a large body of work I have to rely on witnessing the struggles of my family who have been able to work. (Embarrassing and humiliating not to have a fit body, but its part of the point)

First I want to address in a surprising and considerate way your first point. I happen to agree with you almost completely on company loyalty and if you have a job bring your A game or leave, I could not agree with you more [Unlike in some polite posts, when I say I agree with I mean it]. But I am also keenly aware of a very tough balancing act. What someone’s skills are, their capacity to see those skills manifest, to accept input from others, what their standards for a proper task completion, etc all pull at a person. I can sum it up this way, I was watching “Bones” the character of Tempi Brennan aka Bones has rather high standards, “If I held others up to my standards, I would not be able to work with anyone”. I have learned just because individually only X bench mark is acceptable does not mean others understand what that level of A game is. The perspective of an employee, management has to deal with mixing “Top Guns” with people who kind of like the concept of flight, then push them both together to achieve a goal.

Second point is some companies have done what you suggest in my metaphoric example of “cracking the whip” and are completely respected for it and the employees know what they are in for from day one. But that only works if you have a company who needs the best of the best in most positions to achieve a goal which requires top guns to work for you. Not saying a grocery story does not qualify, for yes it does, what I am saying is put the correct personnel to the correct job.

Companies are going to have their employees complain, just part of doing business. But what I pointed out in a bad way was this, if a company has an opening make sure to match the proper employee to the proper job. I am reminded of the parable the turtle and the scorpion. Make sure you put your scorpion employees in scorpion tasks and your turtles accordingly. Put too many turtles, scorpions, and top guns in the incorrect places or mixes and the reputation of the company goes down and each skill/A-B-X group will be unhappy. No real need to crack whips, match the jobs better.

One thing which fascinates me about this topic is the conversations which would naturally come from posting the question in the first place.

The sentence structure was partially designed to create a schism. Those that saw the lets help the company improve and those that saw the employees.

Now positive or negative siding of each side might produce an equal and opposite from someone else.

I find the posts so far very much in that line. Pro workers rights, pro management, pro company, etc. Add in personal experience and in this class we need to create persuasive posts as to what we think are the best solutions which are only a few. Then we respond to our classmates; agreeing, disagreeing, expanding on an idea in class, etc this dynamic is interesting to watch. Trying to convince each other of differing points of view, how some are valid but some are counterproductive. Watching how these questions are answered and the chats which follow are going to be an excellent learning experience.

Watching the sentence structure of how each persuasive essay, response, chats are posted will show you some very interesting true life examples of how to apply what we are learning in the textbook to real life.

One reason I did not answer from the employee’s perspective is this.

The question was from Mr. Reed about how to manage his employee’s resources in a more efficient manner. The harsher rules, the time off requests, the kid with out school or sitter being sick, having some medical issue occur, etc are all a third aspect of the theme of the question.

HR is in huge way responsible for hiring the correct people for the job. Those ifs are for HR to figure out where in the company someone would be a best fit in. If you as an perspective employee want to do X job but do not have all the necessary at home and at work skills for the job in place than that job is not a good one for you to have. You and your brother have similar and unique skills the company is thrilled to use and work with you on. Paring your and your brother might have been disastrous, but instead it works great. Why the HR person sized you two up and knew the dynamic would be perfect. But you can probably think of a few relatives you could never trust in that same position.

To fill summer positions, especially floater positions, HR needs to be strongly on the case to find the correct people. Which is why the end result of why those actions are taking place is taken care of with proper hiring and management of resources skills are applied.

I thought I had this assigned down. But so far that assumption has proved to be incorrect.

I am curious as to how best to formulate some of my posts to start to include the reading material sentence structure tools into these posts.

I find it interesting. You might be correct even for the daily posts the body of apa may be needed. Introduction, point 1, point 2, conclusion. Adding in possibly other subsections; theory, subject sub-grouping. But we shall have to see, this is only half way through week 2. Still time to work the errors out of our writing over the coming weeks.

I suppose there are also errors in the entire process. To input data, analyze it in this class subject manner, and start to produce one or more persuasive posts. This change in sequence might be difficult for some.

I suppose the best way to create a persuasive essay is to start at the beginning.

Introduction

I recommend Mr Reed do the following two tasks.

1 pull away from micro-management. There is no reason to try and fix each employee so your shifts will be covered. Depending on how big the corporation is, micromanaging will not work after a specific number of employees are hired.

2 create a temporary grocery specific or contract with an established temp agency to provide your corporation temp workers at the drop of a hat.

The best recommendations are to stop micromanaging and create a temporary worker pool for your corporation and other grocery chains.

I think part of the reason the memo about Mr Reed was delivered was to first show Mr. Reed techniques so he would not have to micromanage anymore.

Instituting employee compliance policies in a large company with dozens if not hundreds of employee’s is simply a huge waist of time and resources. Providing solutions which allow Mr. Reed the ability to do is management job and trust the employees will do their jobs. In essence Mr. Reed is micromanaging a situation far beyond his or most peoples ability to micromanage.

The solutions we were asked to suggest were I think partially designed to see if individually we would see the sentence structure of the micromanagement aspects of the request or the larger more detached management options.

When you have kids, every time you ground them/punish them you are punishing yourself as well. Since you have to do the same time as they do monitoring they comply with their punishment. Every rule if not followed up on is a rule forgotten. If the rules were strengthened it would create a whole new set of tasks and additional micromanagement time away from real job to see who was complying and who needed to be punished, and how severe would the punishment need to be. Then the legal aspects of employee rights and unions come into the mix.

Happy employees usually do not cause problems. What I mean by happy employees is this, If any HR person would hire me of all the jobs I am qualified to do I can think of 3 no amount of money would make me do them with enthusiasm.
But at times some people will not and do not have any choice in the matter.
How can this topic have some tips as to how to include some extremely educated workers who took the job because they needed to eat, but were generally not in a field they particularly like.
These economic times an example, its great to say ok put X person in X job, Y in Y job. But food is a much higher concern.

That has been one of my main points. “Someone” a very vague reference. “Will” followed by an equally vague action.

In a societal structure the simply mom and pop management tools work great till dozens of employees and millions of dollars becomes the organization. Those small management tools will simply not work past a specific expansion size.

With Knowledge comes responsibility. So in essence, you being a person of education and skill you have to keep an eye out for those PhD service personnel and see how to shift them into something to better suite their needs. You as a superior position in the company it now becomes your responsibility when you identify the problem to fix the problem. By pointing something out, you take on the responsibility to fix what you pointed out. Knowledge = responsibility.

So what suggestions for helping those highly educated but in sub education standard job, how will you “Someone will be snatching that person away to bigger and better things” do that? One reason uop has teams is to teach us A types how to deal with and work with less types. Everyone can do a job, it is us to the A types to figure out how to work with them.

When we receive out degrees in what every field, part of the reason to get a degree especially from an online source is to be able to get the promotion into management. Here is the first line problem all educated, academics, and management have to deal with every day. How to properly deal with those that do not have the drive.

Have you been in a team where a team mates turns in say 120 words of the 600 assigned with no references? That team member is sure they turned in 600 plus with the best references imaginable, the reality/point of view they have and the true reality are vastly different. It is up to the high functioning and most times A types who have to do a lot of ketchup. How to fill in for what they think they did and not rub their nose in their obvious failures? In teams as Mr Reed is facing the same problem, his team during the summers do not step up. How to fix without Mr Reed doing all the work is the point to the week. If someone has no ability to write 600 words but they do have the ability to write 120, then you take their 120 and say great then you take their outline and fill in the rest. Pointing out to a slacker they are a slacker is a waist of time, they will hate you for it and you will then have to deal with doing their work and dealing with their rage. Just because A types have a bench mark of qualify does not mean most do. Not being angry with them for not being able to stand up is the point. Create a management system not from the getting mad aka punishment of none A type employees to force them into being A types, to manage both the A types and everyone else. There is no way to make a B type stand up, horse to water parable.

Greys Anatomy the character of Christina Yang has been talking about wanting to become a “Cardio God” from the first episode. But not every doctor has the ability to achieve the goal of being the tip of the sword in their specific talents field.

My son in law has an iq in the nose bleed section. But his personality is so laid back it is hard for him to express the intelligence he has. He has no drive, so his brains are directed at the things he has some small interest in.
Punishing him for having such a laid back personality is never a good idea. Making him achieve will simply never get him to do it. He will just get upset and do less, or do more but very angrily. When he complains to release stress his support system will start to look unfavorably at the employer for not understanding how to communicate and manage my son in laws personality type correctly.

A corporation has to adjust themselves to who they hire. Not everyone is an extreme A type who will gladly put in backbreaking work everyday for what ever reason. How to properly manage the employees who are not, is a question of this week. Firing and punishing those that do not have the ability to step up is a waist of time and bad reputation creator. More than a few good companies have gone under for this reason.

I forgot that point when I was writing my posts. My responses have been either hire a grocery specific temp agency or create one.

What will obviously start to happen (but again forgot to include it thanks for the reminder) the temp worker starts to outshine the tired and or the lazy. Now aother problem comes up, which is in part a companies employment record/reputation. What to do with the older not quite A game employee? Firing/replacing will produce a bad environment. So this becomes an opportunity for the company to transfer its already hired, trusted, trained, senior people from jobs they are tired of and move them into a new better job.

Another reason I suggested the home grown employment agency is, an agency is a great way to retrain/move around tired or not good HR personnel to a better fit job. Employers have responsibilities with their employees more than just do the assigned tasks, pay them and that is the end.

The educated need to understand something when it comes to the company Employees relationship. A small mom and pop only need basic math to achieve their accounting. 1 item purchased, one item on the shelves, one item purchased, one item pay taxes. But for corporations to build loyalty requires a polynomial approach to relations. Each ( ) or line of calculations/work is a new layer of mutual responsibility. I like the reliability of temp workers. If they do not come into the job happy, eager to work, well qualified, and skilled applying the their qualities their company will not send them out next time.

I love the idea of on call workers who will bring their A game. If they do not give their A game, they do not get deployed. I have also seen, at a variety of places, where the A game temp workers encourage the full time workers to work harder and bring their A game.

A little competition is a very healthy and good management tool when applied properly.

I did not make myself clear. The backbreaking reference was not to the level of work someone is or is not willing to do. The essay was not focused on what the employees would do but how the management of the company can best apply resources.

Believe it or not in the teaching world, teachers and professors with and without a PhD is a huge distinction. Masters and Specialists are one category and PhDs are another. When I was in astronomy class I had an idea. My idea was it is not possible to have an accurate mathematical formulation of the solar system if those calculations do not take into account missing data.

Obtaining accurate information in the communications, psychology, business, and or any other field requires accurate base information to create trustable plans. One major reason all college degrees at least an algebra 209 proficiency is to teach young academics the solid value behind adding the basics of algebra to your life and career. By converting some of the things you want to achieve into algebra it is then possible to start to build an accurate picture of what a things response to your impetus is.

My basic idea in astronomy came directly from the basic lessons of algebra. When piece of a mathematical calculation is incorrect the answer is by default also incorrect.

This connection was only possible by applying the basic information I learned from the first 10 classes I took and algebra. If the calculation events out, this points to the evidence gathered through research has a potential to be more accurate.

A point of clarification, I reference my relatives not because I am bragging about what they did shows on me. I reference them for first hand experience reference to the points I am making.  Am a 38 almost 39 year old first time in college 48 credit hour person. Being born to someone who has achieved only gives you a framework of what worked for them; may or may not work for you.

Creating a proper analysis requires accurate parameters to do the calculation from. One major reason I turned my back on academics as a high school graduate is I knew instinctively schools had nothing I wanted to learn then. I was lucky enough to be correct. Correct because after 20 years of being taught by different teachers from different philosophies and cultural norms alters the perspective enough to allow for a flawed tool to still work great. The student just needs to know what the flaws are and how to avoid enflaming the problem. I love learning about various families histories, not because I can repeat past successes by following their game plan. I love it because it gives me a great road map of what is sociologically acceptable, in what package, of what idea, at what time, etc. Just like academics, what someone can achieve in a large part depends on striking a balance between what a person wants, what their relatives have done, what the society is ready for, and what plan of progress action you plan on using.

Just make sure you have as good an idea of all the main points before you start to create a plan. What works in lean times might not work in economically great times. Some actions stay consistent while other actions change. The better the picture the better the future road map.

All things on this earth in humans starts with the firing of synapses. Those synapses are thought,  so if someone wants an academic and or other communication related career the level of communication skills they need are just under master category.

I was just talking to my mother about what I want to do with my education and I told her I need much more knowledge about how to communicate because I do not know the major formulas some people need their information presented in. This class for instance, the formula of how all answers need to be presented is also down to the word specific. But the nice thing about the tools we are learning to use to increase our communication skills are great because there are some if you do not make your position with absolute clarity at in every sentence with as much emphases on short length as clarity they just will not understand what they are reading.

In almost every way, learning the formulas of proper communication insures a high percentage of understanding from the reader.

Have you or someone in your organization thought of pooling all those different record requests into a database? So look up the information once input it into a database, so the information needed is only as far away as the electronic database.

When interacting around they people I deal with, I found I need to keep a running track of a lot of the facts you pointed out; name, city, site map, ever increasing layers of information. The more information gathered the better the database is. The more complete the more the database can be used by more than just your company to get instant access to specific details about someone, something, or other specific information about any given topic.

It does not take much action in the knowledge fields to learn “Knowledge is power” (Bacon, 1600’s). Once you start pooling data that pool starts to take on mass. Once a specific set of mass has been achieved the pool becomes a valuable asset.

Not only will having a database make all in your companies job easier, but you can lease access to the database to other organizations. Which will make your company look great, profitable, and the efficiency of the staff will increase. One person gathers and inputs the data, the entire company has access. By the time the hip straightens out the loss of the C spring energy is evident in the whobblyness of the skis themselves. In all things context of the situation is key. I have found placing motion of a situation into proper context can provide many answers of wasted time, energy, and laziness. Cut too many corners with that sentence. Compressed the ideas I was attempting to use, just too much. In that sentence I was attempting to create an example of proper research by giving an example of an existing tool used in two fields to a high degree of success.

But as I have started to understand narrowing the subject down is better than trying to have 14 references to one thing. Concise also has the concept of if they need more evidence or additional information, they can ask for it. No need to waist valuable words on deviations from the point.

But I spent too much time trying to compress and not enough on structural continuity.

I have a great example of applying the proper definition, in the proper context, at the proper time, and with the proper understanding of data can and will produce a deeper understanding of a given cultural concept. A perfect example in our world today is the war America is fighting against a war with a culture we simply cannot really understand. When we are called “the great Satan” metaphorically speaking that concept exists in western culture but its deeper meaning is lost to us. The deeper meaning is this. According to the rules of cuneiform and Arabic God gave all two legged/bipedal creatures to the serpent. Some serpent minions are given the gift of becoming a human by god aka profits. It could not have been any other way. Your word usage pointed directly to hundreds of not thousands interacting with your database, that requires a lot of very expensive equipment to maintain. If managers are loosing basic small details aka emails about logistics that also points to the corporation being huge.

That was also in your sentence structure. I did not know it was military but the assumption was clear. Plus almost every major manufacturing or equipment corporation have military contracts. That is where the money is. Great, sounds like a good CYA. But is it efficient ? Can it be made to be more efficient? Can steps be fixed to remove the current problems? I think; yes.

I find people not directly involved probably just see but not log into memory your email updates. So a gui would force some attention. In my research I often have to coordinate dozens of things into just the correct sequence. Using history as the key ingredient when attempting to work on advanced technology requires combinations which create some strange bedfellows. I often have huge trouble keeping track of everything. What tools would you recommend for me to more easily keep track of dozens if not hundreds of different lines of input?

History, and a wide variety of subjects. Technology, each culture has its own understanding of what and how to process ideas into practicality. Societal acceptable information and implementation of source material. Societal unacceptable source but acceptable implementation. With about a dozen more categories, each with a couple dozen subcategories.

The hardest portion is the unacceptable evidence. I was in a history class just 3 classes back were a person in class was convinced a 60 foot tsunami could not do that much damage. When I pointed out a 15 foot tsunami killed 250,000 not a few years back; was met with a very difficult response.

300 card carrying NAZI’s were smuggled in and all crimes forgiven in American 1945. Its all about context. The NAZI was Van Brown and his rocket team, who gave America a space program and moon landing capable rocket. Its all about context, if he had refused at any point he would have been given a very quick response; a bullet to the head. Some Germans had no choice but to cooperate, they were just as much slaves as anyone else under the NAZI boot.

How to organize millions and billions of pieces of information, for scientific research. But achieve the goal with less than a shoe string budget.

 

Introduction

The best recommendations for Mr. Robins to get back up to speed to achieve his current assignment is to immediately put into place the following actions in order to catch up and be ready to train the new hires.

Mr. Robins faces the following problems; the entry paperwork is incomplete, the drug tests are not started, and the training area has not been reserved. Here are a list of possible immediate application solutions so Mr. Robins can be up to speed and ready within 7 business days. Putting multitasking tools into place will be a good project to tackle after this due diligence problem is solved.

First implement immediately organizational tools. Keeping track of what is happening with 15 people has proven to be too difficult. Organizational tools to just keeping track of all the activities going on is an essential first step. In the three primary steps to follow implementing use of a simple organizational tool will be essential to complete the required tasks on time.

Second the paperwork needs to be done immediately. Make contact with each prospective person and email/fax them copies of the incomplete paperwork. Have them email/fax back the completed forms A.S.A.P.. This will achieve all the paperwork back from the candidates within two business days.  As the paperwork comes back use the organizational tool to make sure all the incoming pieces are organized and put into place immediately. One problem new managers face is becoming overwhelmed with keeping all the paperwork in order. Any one given task could have a dozen components, each with hundreds of pages of information accompanying. All that paperwork needs a good but basic organizational tool.

Third immediately set up drug screening tests for the local hires at a clinic which specializes in such testing. For the out of town persons having them do the drug tests immediately with their local Medical Professional. That out of town testing process will increase the time from a few days to perhaps a week.

After all the names of the locals are checked for test completion from the clinic, place those in a stack. Then combine the local and the out of town tests to complete that section of the paperwork. It might sound redundant, but by using this technique it becomes possible to expand and hire hundreds if not thousands of workers. Making sure each one has all the necessary tasks finished, on schedule to start work.

Fourth a new training location will be required. Find the next available appropriate room onsite, and book it. If there are no available rooms onsite then find out what offsite locations have been used in the past and book one of them.

As soon as the boss finds out about the lack of immediate follow through consequences will occur. The best thing to do is to put the previous suggestions into place immediately, when the results start filling in that is when to contact the boss and give her factual based progress reports. Reassurances only count when the employee has created a history of trust with the supervisor. “I assure you, I am on top of it” is not a fact based progress report, it says “I am sorry, I forgot.  I will focus all my attention on that subject immediately and fix the problems my laziness has created.” Now there are usually two ways in which to apologize to a supervisor; fix the problem and never mention any of it, two fix the problem and inform the boss you spotted the mistake and what steps were taken immediately to fix the problems. Some bosses want an apology, some just want it fixed. For the just fix it, a lot of them view apologies as weakness and will categorize that manager as having no upward mobility.

Alternatives

Of course their might be a dozen other ways in which to get Mr. Robins up to speed with hiring, training, and each employees first quarter on the job. But these solutions are the best way to get all the recruited through the hiring process as quickly as possible. The problems which presented themselves from the Mr. Robins report are not necessarily problems themselves; they are symptoms of larger problems. Those larger problems can all be fixed with the proper allocation of good management skills and organization tools.

Recommendations

In the future, Mr. Robins would be greatly served on this task by creating a step by step checklist with activity, time, date, person, each time employee has been contacted, each time employer has contacted employee, and when each needs to be done by specific date. This proposed checklist will assist Mr. Robins in all aspects of the current position and the rest of Mr. Robins managerial positions through his career. By moving those headings into a simply spread sheet and adding a check mark with time and date of entry will work perfect and quick at a first management organizational tool.

Adding the above described checklist to the above mentioned multitask organizational tools will provide the skills Mr. Robins needs in order to become a success at his current position. The very reason organization tools exist in the first place; they allow a person to work on many complicated tasks all at the same time with at least a proficient level of skill. The only real problem for Mr. Robins at this time is so many tools, so many different ways to use the tools, some of those tools take time to learn how to use them properly, and achieving a proficiency with those tools in a timely manner. For a new manager quickly pouring through the different organizational tools to find the ones the individual works best in the current job, is difficult. However, it is time extremely well spent. For every additional project taken on in the future, applying the correct tool to the correct project for maximum skill with minimal time invested is the goal of every business task.

Conclusion

The issues Mr. Robins is facing are not insurmountable if proper task completion organizational tools are put into place immediately.  It is true Mr. Robins his management career is off to a bumpy start, but all the mistakes according to the analysis have easy solutions. Not having the paperwork finished, the drug screening test incomplete, and the training room reschedule all these problems have easy and cross organizational solutions. The tasks Mr. Robins needs to fix are only insurmountable if good organizational tools are not used. Can Mr. Robins size up his manager to see what is needed just get the job done and fix problems along the way without voicing problems or will the manager react in a dozen other harder ways to figure out how they want projects ran. One of the hardest problems when dealing with management will be during these issues. Some managers want different fixit acknowledgements from their employees, finding out which each supervisor wants is the key to any future career chosen.

In American auto racing both in stock cars and formula one major energy restrictions are placed on the vehicles to prevent the car from going over some speeds. Speed is only a portion of the point, the skill of being able to drive for a hundred or so miles at 250+ mph inches from other vehicles moving at 250 mph. The skill is the important portion not how fast.

In down hill ski jumping the point is to get as close to a specific mark as possible. Adding the kinesiology techniques might remove a vital portion of the competition. The portion removed in the current rules are; the first round only the top 5 marks advance, the second round is the actual competition of the metals. If these techniques were added a great deal more skiers would move closer to qualifying. Making the margin of how advances from meters to inches.

My kinesiology observations of the ski jumping no matter how accurate they are, adding them to current competitions might go against the very grain of the sport itself. Thinkers need to take a step back when they do get ideas, for maybe sometimes no matter how correct implementing the idea would be bad.

If you think about it, interesting ideas need to be worked extremely carefully. A good idea in the wrong hands can be a lethal combination. Can you imagine the governmental structure of Imperial Rome suddenly having the technology advancement of the industrial age? The Roman government was presented with the steam engine and turned it down flat.

But every academic at one point or another might be confronted with either having an idea or present with an idea by a friend which can lead to some truly adult consequences. We all must be very mindful of where a good idea, placed in the proper context, presented to the correct people in charge, and the idea is taken by the citizens. The consequences for that are immense.

It does not take much for a cunning politician to seize a good idea and twist it into something grotesque. If Leonardo Da Vinci’s ideas were adopted by the Venetian government, Venice would still to this day be a political powerhouse. But they choose not to, and have slowly sank into obscurity. If the power centers after Venice would not have been able to gain power, what they accomplished leaves over open and difficult questions.

Just food for thought among those seeking to understand. Understanding something comes with the human natural ability and cultural training to see what is wrong with a thing and see how to improve it. With a solid base in education and learn how to write an essay or paper those ideas can grow long legs and travel far beyond just you. There are consequences to ideas. You never know when what you say to someone else will spur a brilliant life changing idea.

Do not get me started on doing a critical analysis of writing formats. Each one is more annoying to work with then the last.

The base concept of creating a writing format is a genius idea; how it has been implemented I monkey with a wrench would be a better candidate to head either INTEL or NASA. The formatting changes every few months, sometimes the changes are rather dramatic, academic rules are great but the teacher is God in the class no matter what academic rules are given whatever the teacher says is law, I have not been in a single class were the paper formatting standards were consistent to other classes, I had a teacher once mark me off because all my references had an extra space, etc. All those changes are just witnessed changed in only the last 25 months.

Creating a format or action, changing it every few months removes the very definition of the world form.

Fixing mistakes are one thing, but fixing mistakes every few months does not fix mistakes. APA has some history, that history points to no need to change so radically so often.

Without a computer and citation generators I have no idea how college students would get used to writing a paper when it takes hours to write a paper with a computer when most of the formatting is done for you. Trying to create time saving mechanism into something which constantly changes causes more problems then it is worth.

One of my favorite portions of the uop classroom, if you do not want to miss a chat you can read them all. You can study the words and reply back. In a previous class a discussion started in week 2 at Axia, we were at 90 pages by week 8, the online format allowed for a well formulated exploration and not miss anything in the ideas.

Oppenheimer championed that idea with “open discussion” 1944. Being able to talk and communicate is great, but adding this “write it all down” so it can be reviewed improves the progress of ideas.

I think being able to more closely reference in discussions is key. But how to do that in apa is difficult. Not because of the mechanics, but to do an actual running reference.

Additionally with various formats, ideas, proper references, and plagiarism. I can think of at least 4 times in this class were I chose not to add the references of where I found key pieces of data. Those sources according to common sense American values are 110% unacceptable, not only that but that information will just about guarantee what ever subject the author has written about will be circle filed. The problems with academic references are so numerous as to take a while to list and start to fix.

I only have a working knowledge of APA, but when I have looked up and read about the others they all look very interesting.

Different tools for different packaging of information. When I was in high school, I took the required physical science courses. I can see where having a formula format for; what did you do then what were the results, what did you do then, what did you do then, what did you do then, etc.

Working on some ideas, using more of a science format with notes might be a good idea/addition to the apa format or the rules of uop change or add progress notes.

In at least two assignments I did in this class I had ideas evolve while I was writing. It usually takes me about 4 drafts to fill out the ideas and keep the body of the previous idea. So using a format which allows me to track my notes might be a great tool.

I am all about the exploration of ideas; it might be possible APA is not designed to explore ideas but to present one idea in a concise and comprehensive packaging. So I am looking forward this week to exploring how the other tools work.

I am still guessing as to what you want. Most of my posts which have been written using a critical bent have received more green S than the others. So I started writing all my dq posts from a critical analysis base. If that is not what you want, be more clear in your instructions.

I intended all three of last nights posts to be various aspects as I see them in the proper formatting in which reference citation format chosen.

At a teacher I am sure you have parameters you must stay within, but within reason you can determine a large amount of what goes on in a class; students have almost no rights. Not attempting to be nasty, negative, insulting, or crass but what format you chose for us is what we have to go with. I accept this, but do not have to like it. In order to achieve what I want degrees are an absolutely essential portion. So I love the concept of fully documenting posts, the number of large areas which problems, the crossover issues between disciplines, and worse some references are absolutely unacceptable.

So yes it was at attempt at a substantive post for this week references and citations lessons. If I am doing something wrong, be happy to make any corrections you would like.

About two years before I reentered school, a person I knew attempted to help me with formatting. But the piece of paper he gave to was so vague as to not extended an understanding of what formatting was let alone how to do it.

I heard about it, and of course my parochial school teachers talked about their college papers. The I am looking forward to understanding the different formats from what I read. Not really understanding what I read yet, but still working on the lessons from his class.

I am still trying to understand about how to use citations correctly and about the differences between the reference in the footer at the bottom of the page and the end of the paper itself.

I love the study of motion. The study of motion depends on dependable action patterns, all the radical changes sometimes changes the very motion nature that specific discipline was designed to represent. The nature of something are the motions that thing would normally do.

How does a person go from “never heard of x”, to having proficiency with it within just a short time if the item being learned changes.

I am going to have to look up Perlla software immediately. I think using software as a base to make sure all those little rules are followed is great.

The greatest benefit to software is when the rules change again in about two months; the software can be updated immediately.

There are so many unhelpful things to learn in academics, keeping constantly up to date as to the latest format changes is a layer of time wasting which really gets on my nerves.

Tonight I watch an episode of “Greys Anaotomy” in almost all medical shows which revolved around some kind of teaching, the upperclass persons always give huge levels of “skunt work” to the lowerclass doc who they do not like. All that skunt work is actually great, I have learned strongly over all those time keeping track of the paperwork is much more important than anything else. Now the problem with paperwork and the reason skunt ties with academics which then connects on the same level and actions lead to unexpected consequences is the information written on the page needing to be correctly filled out and filed. Keep the same information formats which do not work creates useless red tape, but on the other hand changing formats all the time will only lead to confusion. In the pursuit of knowledge, inconsistencies are the place/location where mistakes start to occur. Change format too much and that is one huge inconsistency.

Now here is the central problem to altering the format of how to properly site and reference written material; when a population has their mind set as to how something works, that is it. So when the public is frustrated with an ever changing format they will get frustrated and walk away. The pursuit of knowledge is exactly the same as a flag barer in battle, the spirit to carry on in academics is the format in which an idea is passes into a theory, which theory passed between piers, and then presented to the public. If the way the idea is processed the public will distress the results.

Two jobs, family, and school gunga din comes to mind. I have no idea how to do that. When I work on a paper, it takes me usually about three days of uninterrupted work to produce a not bad paper. The references take me almost the entire last day. How you multitask on that much and achieve good quality papers, I am impressed.

Putting all the effort into your jobs while working out what to write, and making sure to obtain a good amount of references.

One major problem I encounter is the massive amount of time it takes me to build a mental library in the subject, then to pick and choose what article to use which represents my thoughts best.

What an author intends, what the reader interprets, and an author wants to say with a close enough reference. That is a task which takes extremely long term concentration to achieve; how do you do it?

Thank you for illustrating my point. Constantly communicating by giving a critic (this is what is wrong with what you wrote.) analysis is not the best tool. It is great tool to show how to go about performing the tasks, but after a week or two the technique starts to create a combative atmosphere.

I am simply pointing out proper parameters for teaching the critical analysis tool need to be put into place. For instance week one and two all posts need to be in this x format, after that go back to topic discussions for the week with your fellows. Constantly reading and seeing ways to improve what you are reading gets very old very quickly.

Since I am starting to get annoyed analyzing my fellows, I can analyze the thing which is starting to get on my nerves. By now I would have asked you all kinds of questions about your life and how your life through the subject we are covering in this class can help me to understand it all better. But I am extremely limited in this class as to all aspects of what I can write; this does not make me a happy camper. But this class is better then my worst; in week 4 and 5 in that class I was restricted to only 175 word and not one additional word more in all posts. At least in this class I have a 300 word window, it is limited by introduction, paragraph, possible negative paragraph, conclusion strict format but I can live with that. It’s a good tool to learn, the parameters which make it easier for some groups of readers to upload my data (ha ha). If that format makes it easier for some to understand great let me have it and get good with using it; the benefits far outstretch any negatives.

My teachers at the school of hard Knox helped carefully shape my understanding of knowledge, that shaping consequently I rarely have something to say close to what most others are writing about. What I usually do is write what I want and then go find articles which agree with me, then include those citations. I know it’s a backwards way to do it, but being wordy and opinionated I found this formula works best for me.

My wife has no idea how I can write something then go find references to back up what my thoughts were, but maybe that can help you.

This concept has been of particular concern in the fields of academics since the very beginning of writing. Modern American Academics especially the University of Phoenix is particularly geared toward using the 1929 created American Psychological Association or APA style writing format.

This writing format is designed to create a layered information format in the social and behavioral sciences fields. Humanities academic disciplines lend themselves well in the business world. Human Relations is almost entirely based on the psychology of the worker, placing the correct person in the correct job.

The best way to go about presenting huge levels of information quickly and creating a writing shortcut so piers can read and understand what the author is presenting very quickly. The apa format is designed to present into in a psychological format.

As I read this sentence I was instantly reminded of the 278 words which where so well crafted they set the stage of how the US and world would react for the next half century. Lincon came under word count but still managed to achieve a huge message.

I am starting to see that in a dramatic way, in the critical portions of this class I noticed if the introduction sentence is nicer and the body is harsh the reader has an easier time, but if the into sentence is harsh and the body is harsh the reader come off with a harsher end to their understanding. Good introduction sentence has some weight to it.

“Develop the central idea with several supportive sentences, which can elaborate on the central idea or present an example. Bring the thought process to an end by summarizing the main idea in the final sentence. This basic structural design is the kernel of all well-developed paragraphs, essays, compositions, and research papers.”

I am starting to see why this formula is a good idea to use most of the time. When I have used this format in this class, the response has been overall better then when I just free write. Its almost the formula allows for readers to give input, free the reader almost does not know what to do with it. Will have to think about this, you have made some very interesting points. My classmates have also given interesting supportive posts. Good ideas have to have a supportive audience, if the words are not “coherent and cohesive messages” why bother!

Introduction

The format of writing has been the key concept since the first letter. How does one express an idea through none verbal communication; write it down becomes the only real option. As language evolved from basic scratches and squiggles in the sand to more formalized rules of grammar and sentence structure were invented and then refined. Thousands of years later, the language of American English has been used as the cornerstone communication tool in American Academics.

Through the history of language a person has always needed to find a way to think of an idea, formulate that idea into an idea of substance, and let someone else know of the substantive idea. Throughout the history of American Academics several writing format tools have been invented. Each with a slightly different bent as to how best for a specific academic discipline to communicate thoroughly and concisely express ideas back and forth. AAA, APA, ASA, CSE, Chicago, MLA, etc just to mention a few. Each was developed in an attempt to make a formula for those members of the formulation discipline to exchange ideas easier and faster.

Each academic discipline has many different needs when it comes to how they process information and communicate those processed ideas.

Conclusion

By taking a slightly rigid writing format, academic disciplines can create through its chosen writing format a shorthand to allow for those good at using the format to communicate vastly complicated ideas to colleagues using the least amount of words possible. Which communicating ideas between beings is the very reason writing was invented.

I have several questions about how to improve based on what I wrote and your review.

I noticed you took out a lot of the "flowery/poetic" words, the ideas are conveyed quicker but some of the sentences are a bit dry. How do I find a balance between apparent dry and flowery. Of course I might not be seeing some portion of the cryptic nature academic writing formats are. Nothing negative, just some portions of apa are a layer affect of info ie many concepts are being discussed at the same time. To create that layered effect requires using codes. The dry factor might be a layer of code I am unaware of.

For instance, watching a ski jumper come off the ramp watching the skis flop around looks great, but is a large waist of energy. Without understanding the layer of physics in that motion the energy loss is ignored. Maybe the dryness of some of the sentences is something I am just not seeing yet.

Modern Language Association or MLA format was created in the 1880’s by the scholars in the academic discipline humanities. When writing a paper it is important to create in the sentence citations and at the bottom references, allowing the reader to know the author did not come up with the ideas in the paper. By paraphrasing and quoting writers can create a bridge between the ideas of the past with their own to create new directions in how an idea can be applied. The small end of sentence citation corresponds to the full reference at the bottom the paper. MLA was the academic standard till some institutes started to switch to the new APA.

American Psychological Association or APA

Was invented in 1929 as a way to create a format to make reading comprehension faster and easier. In cooperation with the United States National Research Council, APA format as it has been known in academic circles. APA formatting has specialized in creating writing rules to help an academic writer present the idea of the paper in as thorough and concise as possible. By introducing writing techniques which remove the useless words and sentence structure, this format has had far reaching affects on Academics and the society and cultures which use the papers written in APA formatting. The identification and removal of societal acceptable but none academic words has cascaded into the western cultures vernacular. Sexist words and other offensive concepts have been removed from apa formatting starting in the 1970s.

Conclusion

When a reader understands what the style the academic paper they are about to read is written, unwritten layers of information can be conveyed easily. No need to write the information into the body of the work, the formatting style takes care of some of it.

Introduction

What starts in academics cascades out into the society in which the scholastic institutes are centered.

In the 1970’s, the APA put out a booklet of rules and guidelines to begin the process of removing sexists and other offensive words from the allowable format. This little booklet help academics identify the concepts used and conveyed through the words they chose. This identification cascaded into the western cultures societal understanding.

In every society everyone in that society lives by a mutually agreed upon set of rules and regulations aka the morals and laws of the culture. Those rules are created by the citizens and those rules change over time as what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior changes per generation and per situational stimulation.

When the APA set out new guidelines to remove offensive words from the formatting. America first and western cultures followed suite and started to recognize offensive language, meaning, intent, and the negative attributes to the use of those concepts. As the APA through the 1970’s to the present have continued to refine acceptable and unacceptable language, America has followed suite with the concept “Politically correct”.

Reverse

The tool “Politically correct” when applied correctly is a great sociological direction tool, but it can be used as a power grab tool.

It is amazing to study the sociological dynamic between the ideas which comes from Academics and what cascades into the societies the scholars function within. Some academic ideas are met with a “Frankenstein reaction” from the culture, and other times the idea is accepted as if it had always existed (Shelley, 1800’s). By using writing formats to present ideas through, academics can continue to refine and present its cultures with ever increasingly clear and concise concepts to improve how we all live our lives.

I can understand the confusion. In America 1880, modern American English did not really exist yet. A lot of our words were still interchangeable with England English. Additionally Academics was still using Old, Middle, Kings, and Modern England English. I can absolutely see where a “standardization” into a consistent format would be almost an absolute need.

Some might put forward the idea the MLA and later APA either helped formulate the creation of Modern American English or was the key element which has been the driving force behind the creation of American English.

Some universities in America and the Western Institutions were still accepting papers written in Old Latin, Latin, Church Latin, German, French, and the English variations. It is almost with the invention of the industrial age to apply industrial standardization to American Academics.

There were a few consistencies in pre-MLA writing formats, but you also have to take into account the fact that in some western countries as late at 1880 your family still had to pay a fine for teaching the kids how to read. In America it was illegal for woman to know how to read, unless they were teachers.

The many phases of why, how, when, and the intent behind the creation of writing format styles is a fascinating subject all by itself. I find adding the knowledge of history to the creation of the formats strongly points to why each formula was created. From industrial normalizing, loosing of “knowledge is power” rules/heresy laws, attempting to create a standard American language all those and more lead to the creation of the known writing styles. It is through the exploration of these writing styles which you can take your academic knowledge and express your ideas to the world. The closer you know the each formula the better you can choose the appropriate writing style for the correct audience.

Thanks to the industrial age the same format for creating an engine is the same format in which apa works. So when you are finished writing all you have to do is; make sure the side boarder is set in the three places correctly, crtl a color black, 12, and double spaced. Then review the citations and references are good. The references are in alpha beta order. That is finished paper formatting, what you wrote in the body and on the title page is different. Those are the big points before turning in.

This subject actually angers me. When I was in High school (reminder next to a major u. Many teachers spouses are proffs) most teachers mentioned papers, but when I asked about it they just blew it off. I would have liked to learn mla or apa in high school, but was almost purposely not taught it. I wonder why, of course that was back in the 80’s.

I can provide ideas I wrote down a month before starting, just 3 months later and the improvement through apa is measurable. Would have loved this took 3 decades ago.

Start at Wikipedia and then use their provided references to obtain good pier review, or use the words in the Wikipedia article to do proper uop library word searches.

I cannot tell you how many words I found on wiki that I took to other sources which I would have never known that word or that word was connected to my subject.
