In the vast reaches of history this sentence is a flat hard undeniable fact. If your culture is conquered; you will not write your history, your enemy conqueror will. I 100% guarantee your conqueror will not paint a nice picture of your history. The more they do not like you the nastier they will edit your history. The more of a threat you are or were the more they will take your items, symbols, and concepts of power and adopt them as their own.

When deposed or conquered the major leaders are killed, but their families which could number in the hundreds and or thousands of people have to find their own places in the world.

Some are also killed, but most find other ways to live.

Before the army arrives some escape to friendly nations or unclaimed areas.

Some escape while the battle is occurring.

Some escape in the chaos of the razzing process.

Others partially align with the new conqueror and help in the transition.

While others simply fade into the background and become normal citizens.

Depending on the schema of the commanders depends on the reaction each group chooses regarding

Thatcher; the family with a name similar to Northumberland but became known as simple roofers. Why a strong possibility regarding an ancient conquest and the formerly honorable name was replaced by a low standing and name in the community.

About three to seven repeat conquests and the recollection regarding the leaders of the first couple cultures would be all but totally lost to history.
