Ramses had a problem; the greatest monuments in Egypt were built by both undesirables and Hyksos. So a major amount of remodeling, redesigning, and flat out editing of the previous 3000 years of Egyptian history has to take place. Where things could not be erased they were deformed; example Ramses ii monument, the sphinx, inside some of the pyramids, etc. Although that monument had existed for 2000 years by that point. Some of the pyramids have graves but all were after 1350 b.c.e; reusing a 2000 year old building to make it look different, to make it look like the current story being presented by the pharaohs. The face and back of the sphinx was remodeled to remove the cherubim face and wings to make it look human.
