Even today as it is called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is still extremely misunderstood.

As several sources from the reading have pointed out. Anything can lead to the development of PTSD. Example today the 900 year old Cathedral of Notre Dame caught fire and all but burned to the ground. The cable news is reporting "there are no words to describe my feelings." A huge portion of the population of Paris and the world itself are reacting in Traumatic Horror to the events unfolding. Most if not all of the theories regarding what PTSD is and how to treat it are mere guess work. Suppression of thoughts, feelings, emotions, etc. are one of the group of factors which contribute to how an event can be processed in the brain. How does an event not affect person A but person B just about cannot get over their reactions. Of course a lot of the ideas which form the basis of many of the theories come from either BJ Skinners work (which has been discredited several times; some of his work induces trauma) and the general field of Behaviorism. Which by default means some of the basics of what is PTSD and who to treat it has built in mistakes. This paper will describe different aspects of PTSD and some of the leading theories involved.
