A brief description of your educational/professional background

Being disabled, I suffered a what can be described as a catastrophic back injury at the age of 13. Specifically labor day Monday about 5 pm. Saying the medical treatment to follow for the next 6 months was criminal neglect is a mild understatement. Since the injury the body grew almost a foot in height.

However being born dyslexic, and on the spectrum of neuro a typical. However not being Asperger’s and or autistic places people like me in a very odd situation. The spectrum is more complex than just a several decades old diagnosis of autism, which only applies to very strict parameters of neuro a typical. Nor does it apply to the relatively new diagnosis of Asperger’s, also a very narrow aspects of neuro a typical. My life has been shaped by the facts that processing information differently from “human” has been present my whole life.

A brief description of your geographic origin, personal interests, and/or hobbies

was born in Ohio, moved to colroado at 6, moved to New Mexico when I was 16, moved out and back to Colorado when I was 19. bounced aroudn to dozens of different addresses, handful of states, and areas from 19 too present.

have lived in Ohio, Colorado, New Mexico, AZ, WA State, Florida, and WA state again. it has not been fun, but extremely educational.

Interests are studying, research, drawing, studying, trying to ignore body pain, etc.

A brief explanation of the goals and expectations for the course

To pass the class and get on with the next class. I have little if any real expectation for this class, other than to hope I do not annoy my instructor too much and can pass.

A brief statement to encourage students to respond with their own introductions

if responses in the classroom are a teacher and or classroom requirement, use the socratic method, ask at least ne question at the end of every post. At least a couple people through cultural obligation will respond and post a response.

 

What do you think of when you hear the word “psychology”?

I am on the spectrium so I take words at face value, psych is the mind. Well not really but that is the most accepted western culture definition. In about 20 of the 50 versions of Greek from Proto through classic to part Greek Latin the definition is actually the “stuff” which allows for cogtnitive thoughts. Which is actually electricity and the quantum field. But that is the definition of the first word. The second word ology is Latin for the study of. So Latin first si last last is first, mind the study of become, the study of the mind.

An explanation of the type of environment you are trying to create in your classroom and how your introduction fosters that environment.

In a classroom I would be teaching in, my goal would be to have a generalized application of the topic of each classroom, but be open to where discussions go to. Of course have a recording to the lecture in order to be abel to follow up on some of the eideas presented in the class.

To have information and expressions of the topic brought up, but stick on topic. But not be so ridged that my understanding of “on topic” does noto mean everyone has the same definition of “on topic”. Which si hwere many militarn teachers have torturus classrooms, they want their students to only talk about what they want to talk about in class and not deviate one letter from what they have decided is the topic. Break the trust of the class and it becomes close to impossible to win the trust back. Build an academically friendly classroom.
