week 5 dq v nash

simple, this is a science course. they can either turn their issues into a scientific argument or they are causing a real problem which must be addressed harshly. first provide the student with a solid tool to express their issue through the tool. If they have a real issue with the material, the method is the perfect tool in which to express and form their argument through. if they just want to be some version of a jerk, bully, ect. than they will continue using inappropriate language and not use the scientific method at all. thus proving they are not present for the class but only interested in being a jerk, thus the rules laid out in the student code of conduct are clear. up to and including removal from the class. But evidence of inappropriate actions are needed, if they use the tool they are learning something, if they refuse to use the tool than that shows you something as well. They either do not know how to use it in which case they need assistance with learning how to use it, or they just want to be a jerk, in which case that is physical documentation to provide to the administration for follow up.  But the administration requires documentation of inappropriate classroom behavior, refusing to cooperate in class and refusal to use the scientific method to solve the problems, that is sufficient evidence to take the situation more seriously.

round one, introduce the scientific method.

with more inappropriate comments tear their argument apart using the scientific method. easy at first, then harder and harder criticism till they either cooperate in class or escalate to the point they need to be removed. Use the scientific method to back up yourself in class to produce enough evidence to identify the problem and hand said evidence to the dean for further action. Work the tool, they can either work with the tool to help themselves, or they fight the tool and are removed by it. The tool provides you the teacher with the evidence you need to handle any and all outcomes. Variations in cooperation and or discipline.
